Transverse soft tissue distraction in Apert syndrome with complex syndactyly

The fingers of children with Apert syndrome are tightly fused distally. After the first finger separations, little skin remains for the middle fingers and no tissue for fingertip reconstruction. After distraction with the Cube-Fix, a clear gain in skin and nail bed width is recognizable. Four years postoperatively, all fingers are strong and the distal phalanges are well formed.

As an external fixator for unstable fractures

The Cube-Fix can be fitted with small K-wires, allowing it to be used in small children. The unstable open burst fracture of the middle phalanx of a 7-year-old boy can be reduced and stabilized axially.

Distraction lengthening of the 3rd metacarpal in brachymetacarpia

The Cube-Fix assembled as a frame is also suitable for lengthening metacarpals in brachymetacarpia, here the 3rd metacarpal.

Lengthening of the partially amputated thumb through callus distraction in amniotic band syndrome

Distraction with the Cube-Fix lengthened the proximal phalanx of the thumb by 14 mm. This extension improves grasping larger objects and the pointed grip. The remaining fingers can be reached much better.
